SEDONA -- The Coconino County Sheriff's Office received a call Saturday morning from the leader of a hiking group that found the body of a dead woman near the Huckaby Trail off Schnebly Hill Road.

The woman has now been identified as 52-year-old Gwendolyn Munday of Sedona. She had been reported as missing to the Sedona Police. She had last been seen on Nov. 7, 10 days earlier.

Sedona Fire District, the Sheriff's Office, and Sedona Police were dispatched to the scene. Coconino County Search and Rescue assisted with the recovery of the body due to the terrain.

Initial investigation of the scene does not indicate foul play; however, the case is still open pending further review of information.  The cause of death is yet to be determined by the Coconino Medical Examiner.

Gwendolyn Munday's family had reported her missing and thought that she had gone hiking in Oak Creek Canyon.

The woman's children filed the missing persons reported, formed a search party and canvassed people and business in Sedona's uptown without success.

I knew Gwen way back from the day she got married. Her family has lost a wonderful mother and grandmother. May Gwen rest in peace.

So sad to hear this. Many years ago the Mundy's were neighbors of ours and Gwen was just the nicest person. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her children and family members.
